“Jesus Prays For His Disciples” – John 17:6-19
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.”
— John 17:17
— John 17:17
This Sunday, we will continue our study in John 17, and we will look specifically at verses 6-19. By God’s grace, we will continue to answer this question, What did Jesus pray for?
As Jesus would send out His disciples into the world, He knew the challenges they would face. He was also fully aware of the spiritual battle that awaited them, yet He did not ask the Father to remove them from the world, but rather He prayed that the Father would keep them, guard them, and sanctify them.
My prayer is that during our time together we would be encouraged as we follow Jesus knowing that He prays for us in the same what that He prayed for His disciples!

Celebration of Baptism
In this time, we will rejoice with several individuals who will publicly declare their testimony of faith and their desire to follow Christ in obedience.
Our Songs
In our singing, we will follow a simple flow of the gospel and how we respond by God’s grace. Here’s what we’ll sing together:
- Approach My Soul – A prayer that helps us to remember that as we come to God, it is not by any merit of our own, but by His mercy that He receives us
- Doxology – A song of praise that recounts the blessings God lavishes on us and how we should respond.
- He Will Hold Me Fast – An anthem that reminds us of the saving, keeping power of Christ that will not let us go
- We Are Yours Forever – A song of proclamation that we are God’s people, set apart by His grace
Scripture Verses
In seeing and reading God's Word, we will be reminded that we belong to the Lord, who is good and faithful and His steadfast love calls our hearts to give Him praise.
- Psalm 100:2-5 - “Worship the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! For the LORD is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.”
- Hebrews 4:16 - “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
- John 10:27-29 - “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.”
- 1 Peter 2:9-10 - “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
Questions to Prepare My Heart For Sunday
- How does knowing that Jesus prays for you change your perspective on things?
- In what parts of your life is God sanctifying you (setting you apart) by His truth?
- How can you be encouraged with the hope that Christ holds His people fast?
We look forward to worshiping with you this Lord’s Day. Come ready to hear His word, see His word, and sing His word together!
