Main Idea: God gives good things to His people Where We Have Been in the Story of God’s Redemption 1. The Pentateuch: God exhorts His people to live by faith in His promised seed and promises His kingdom rest to those who passionately love Him and demonstrate their faith through obedience to His law. Genesis: The Creator God plans to redeem the nations and establish His kingdom through the promised seed. Exodus: The Saving God redeems His people to establish them as a kingdom of priests. Leviticus: The Holy God establishes a way to be able to dwell in the midst of His people. Numbers: The Gracious God exhorts His wandering people to enter into His rest through faith. Deuteronomy: The Glorious God prepares His people to experience blessing as they live by faith in the land. 2. Joshua, Judges, Ruth: Longing for a King and His Kingdom. Joshua: God keeps all His kingdom promises. Judges: The need for a king. Ruth: The hope of hesed for the hurting. The Covenant King: An Overview of 1 & 2 Samuel. We need a King who can enable us to love and obey God from the heart. 1. Samuel: Desiring a King Like the Nations (1 Sam. 1-8) 2. Saul: Getting a King Like the Nations (1 Sam. 9-31) 3. David: Getting a King of the Covenant (2 Sam. 1-12) 4. Christ: Desiring the King of the New Covenant (2 Sam. 13-24) The God Who Gives Good Gifts (1 Samuel 1). 1. We lack good things (vv. 1-8). 2. We ask God for the good things we lack (vv. 9-18). 3. God generously grants good things to His people (v. 19-20). 4. We use what God gives us to worship Him (vv. 20-28).
